Nikki Humphrey (00:00)
Are you feeling the peace?
Hope Mangiafico (00:02)
I am it hit me well one when I shared what I got in my devotion and then when you shared at the end of the episode something just
Clicked, hit me gently in a peaceful way.
In an empowering way.
Recognizing the faces of peace in your life gives you a sense of empowerment, but not in how the world teaches it. It's becoming the overcomer that's stated like talked about in the book of Revelation.
And like you shared, it dismantles like the victim mindset, things like that, which an overcomer is the opposite of that.
Nikki Humphrey (00:42)
Yeah.
Hope Mangiafico (00:42)
So yeah, are you feeling it?
Nikki Humphrey (00:45)
I am.
It's gonna sound so silly, but I'm saying it 'cause this is what came up for me towards the end. Like, I forget Jesus is there all the time.
Hope Mangiafico (00:54)
No Are you kidding me? That's not
Nikki Humphrey (00:56)
Right.
Hope Mangiafico (00:56)
silly. That's is normal. And I think that's
Nikki Humphrey (01:00)
You know
Hope Mangiafico (01:01)
yeah.
Nikki Humphrey (01:01)
It's like again, simple, not easy.
Hope Mangiafico (01:07)
Well and you mentioned it in the same story of Mark four, I believe, is where it is in scripture, and you started talking about that awareness aspect. Or excuse me, as you talk about awareness, but like the assumption part.
Nikki Humphrey (01:22)
Yeah.
Hope Mangiafico (01:22)
Yeah, the assumptions, excuse me. And it was just like something about bringing that scripture to light today for this episode, which is a very common scripture. Most people know it. But we
through Holy Spirit had like a new spin on it. And just like, man, I assume he's not with me. I let the enemy steer and Jesus is on my shoulder tapping.
Nikki Humphrey (01:51)
But hope, I think you and probably a lot of people listening or watching feel the assumptions that we create in our head that have no basis in reality that steal our peace, our joy, our contentment, robs us of sleep, increases anxiety, just based on the assumptions that we create on our own.
Hope Mangiafico (02:18)
A thousand percent.
Nikki Humphrey (02:20)
It's it's not even anybody else. It's like we do that to ourselves.
Hope Mangiafico (02:27)
It's like how how I don't know if you have an answer for this, it's kind of a weird question as I'm trying to say it. Like how do we all fall into that trap? You know? Is it just like a little whisper in our ear? Like what is it? Because you're stinking right
Nikki Humphrey (02:44)
I think it's from like past experiences, our histories. We think same thing's gonna happen again, repeated cycles. And what happens when we have those assumptions and we assume so our brain is looking for those things, so they're more likely to happen the
Hope Mangiafico (03:01)
Br yes.
Nikki Humphrey (03:03)
more time we spend on those assumptions and thinking about those things. Cause what you focus on, you'll find.
Hope Mangiafico (03:09)
Crazy.
Do you have a suggestion
Nikki Humphrey (03:12)
Mm-hmm.
Hope Mangiafico (03:13)
of how to I don't love how to's because as soon as you turn it into a formula it dismantled a suggestion on your personal journey of stopping assumptions before you even enter into a situation, you know what I mean?
Nikki Humphrey (03:29)
So we're talking like this to the girls. I'm doing this whole mindset moment with the girls at the beginning of every theology class. Cause I'm like, we just need to anchor into a common thing. But no matter what topic it is.
And it's all topics of like we don't do that here, like negative self-talk or talking about
Hope Mangiafico (03:46)
Yeah.
Nikki Humphrey (03:48)
or crossing our boundaries, things like that. Every single time that causes those assumptions, it's building awareness. Just becoming aware that you're doing it, like we talked about in the episode. Once you start building that awareness of your habits, what are you doing? Where does your mind tend to go to?
Hope Mangiafico (04:12)
awareness around your habits is a good one, Nikki.
Nikki Humphrey (04:15)
Mm, your habits, your thoughts, where you tend to go when you're feeling this way. 'Cause you can't fix something that you're not aware of.
Because our our our our mind, our body, our spirit, it goes on autopilot 'cause we've we've been doing it for a long time. It just goes that way and we're not even aware of what's happening half the time. We feel the effects, but we're not aware how we got there.
Hope Mangiafico (04:42)
Yeah.
And the crazy part of it is, is that the way that we're responding is the way God made our bodies. It's just we now, because of past events and different things, has made our body think everything's like a threat, right? And we have to be careful of seeing it as so negative about how we're responding when in truth we just have to find what the healthy, God defined way is for moving forward.
Because I used to get so upset about my ways, but then when I had the perspective shift, which you talked about in the episode, I was not getting anywhere by always being upset with myself.
Nikki Humphrey (05:25)
Mm-hmm.
Hope Mangiafico (05:26)
But you've had that shift of, wow, God, you made my body so quick to protect. So help me. I have not prayed this prayer, but I'm praying it right now. Help help me realign my body in the right way to respond to the right things, the real threats.
That takes time.
That one percent it is a one percent shift.
But we have to ask him for that help. And we have to have his lenses on. And we talked about in the episode about being a a spectator and being aware. Be a spectator on your life, but sometimes the prerequisite for that is being a spectator of how God works. Watch how the Father is by reading scripture. And then you can better spectate and be aware of your own life.
Nikki Humphrey (06:13)
Yeah, 'cause reading the Bible builds awareness of God's character, who he is, his consistency, what he does, what he doesn't do.
Hope Mangiafico (06:21)
And I will also share this because it's something that I've been convicted of recently and I haven't managed to figure out not figure out what my piece for piece is. And if you don't know what that means, we talked about the episode. Nikki and I read the Bible in a year last year. It was awesome. This year, I'm having trouble opening my Bible. So much is happening.
And just because I read the Bible last year does not mean I am carrying it around everywhere I go. If I would just open it on any given moment, my Devo is part of that, but it's not sufficient enough. I'll be honest. Like my Devo is awesome, but I need to read the word. And it can only it could be just one verse. And it will change my day. And I know that. But giving a piece to get that piece
can feel like a hurdle sometimes and I hate to admit that because Nikki sometimes I'm like, girl, how did we read the whole Bible last year? Honest to goodness.
Nikki Humphrey (07:26)
Right. Read the Bible, take our notes, process it, all the things.
Hope Mangiafico (07:34)
It's incredible.
Nikki Humphrey (07:35)
Mm-hmm.
Hope Mangiafico (07:37)
I'm not I mean, I'm not even kidding. Like I'm like shocked so
Nikki Humphrey (07:39)
I mean, just to get
through Chronicles, I mean, y people should get an award. Like really.
Hope Mangiafico (07:46)
And the the crazy thing
I know. And God like gave us the grace to do that and now I'm having to remind myself that I read it, it's in there, but I've gotta tap into it by picking it back up because every time you pick it back up you get refreshed by it. You don't already know it.
And I need to hear that for myself.
Because for a while there's grace where you know, you just gotta figure life out. Absolutely. But be careful staying disconnected from the scripture because you can only do that for so long.
All I got folks.
