So we just wrapped up the episode of who are your mat people? Who are the friends that will carry you to Jesus? And question that came to my mind that kind of puts you on the spot, Nikki, and I'm thinking about it too, is can you pinpoint a moment in your life where you're like, that's a mat person?

Nikki Humphrey (00:19)
Yes, I've talked about this on the podcast before and I didn't realize this was a mat person till way after the fact. And I think that's how it sometimes happens. Sometimes we can identify mat people in the moment, but the first person to actually call me out for a lack of a better term or question my thinking was way back before I was even a Christian. I had stopped.

becoming a Catholic. thought God had hated me. For those of you who heard the story before, just bear with me. But I think it goes to, to answer this question when I say it again, but I just thought there's no way that God loves me. My soul is irredeemable. I thought that like, that was just it. I'm just gonna try to be the best person I can and that's it. And the most unlikely person reminded me.

that God still loves me, he never stopped loving me, and he always will love me.

And planted the seed of like, what if I just let him in again? What did I have to lose? And because of that one conversation, allowing that thought to take root,

over the next couple years allowed me to be thinking that my soul was irredeemable to be the woman who I am today, ⁓ a thousand million percent in for God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, cheering everybody else on, encouraging everybody, telling everybody that it's not too late. It will never be too late. God is right there. He's always been there. We just need to reach out to him and it's going to be okay.

And that was probably...

all because of this person took a risk and told me a hard truth that here we are today.

Hope Mangiafico (02:11)
That is such a good story and makes me think this saying kept coming up in my mind during the episode. I've shared it before on the podcast as well. But it's like people are in your life for a reason, season or lifetime. And that person, the Lord brought into your life for a very specific reason. You know, haven't shared what happened after that, but at end of the day, it was a reason at that moment.

And I think it's a good reminder when we go through life to kind of keep that at the top of our mind as we're talking to the Father, maybe He's giving us some people in mind or we're just out there putting ourselves out there and seeing what happens. That when someone enters your life,

take hold, but sometimes somewhat loosely because we don't know what the father's doing in the background.

And if you hold on too tight, then we become attached to the mat person instead of where the mat person was taking us to.

And I think it's just really, really amazing to think about your story and how.

It kind of almost contradicts everything we talked about in the episode, but at the same time, we cannot forget that God will use anyone and everyone. And that goes back, actually, full circle moment to what the Father should mean. Like, it's not about who, it's the when. Like, once we currently, now that we're on the other side and like you said, like, like, so it out for Jesus and going all in.

We have this foundation now that we don't settle on. And so as our season shifts, it's just a matter of when these people enter our life.

Definitely. And like you said, it was almost contradictory, but then the Lord just reframed it automatically as soon as you said that. It didn't contradict it. This was, I had history with this person and it was so out of character of their consistent behavior that we talked about in the episode. That that's what hooked me in because like, why would this person say this?

when it just seems so strange. And I think at the time, if it was a person like on fire for Jesus or 100 % sold out for God, it wouldn't have landed like it did. So it's looking at the person, the consistency of their character, who they are as a person. And it's just...

Hope Mangiafico (04:36)
Okay.

Nikki Humphrey (04:49)
Like you said, hope God will use anyone at any time. He wants to get the message to you. He wants it to highlight like in bold, underlined, flashing lights. Sometimes the messenger is a little different than we expect.

Hope Mangiafico (04:52)
Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. you're going in with no expectancy. And that helps. It's that natural openness by accident.
