Nikki Humphrey (00:00)
we hope this episode reminded you of something simple but powerful. Knowing the word can be joyful, worship can be playful, and community can be full of laughter. From Esther's courage to Peter's imperfect faith, from Samson's strength to Zacchaeus' transformation,
and Mary's bold devotion. Every story we name today points to the same truth. God meets ordinary people in real moments and does extraordinary things through them. And those lyrics we fill then, they're more than just songs. They're declarations. It's his breath in our lungs, his name that is beautiful, his goodness that is running after us, his faithfulness working out all things.
Faith isn't meant to feel heavy at times. It is meant to be lived, sung, celebrated, remembered, and shared. Sometimes regrow through deep reflections, and sometimes regrow through joy. So this week, let yourself hold both things, the depth of scripture and the delight of laughter. You can know the Bible and still be playful. You can love worship and still have fun.
Hope Mangiafico (00:52)
So, we're to be doing that a few more different times. In the end, we want to celebrate and be able to get a good show. Sometimes we're doing it in a different direction, and sometimes we're doing it in a different way. Sometimes we're doing it in a way that's not quite right. And that's why we're doing it in different way. So, we're going to it a different way.
Nikki Humphrey (01:20)
You can grow
spiritually and still enjoy the moment. Thank you for being a part of our fellowship today. We are so grateful you're here, growing, learning, singing, guessing, and walking this journey out with
Hope Mangiafico (01:36)

Hope Mangiafico (02:13)
you
Yes, yes, yes, and that includes more joy, right? And more fun. I had so much fun last week, and I think you did too, that why not do it again, right?
Nikki Humphrey (02:36)
Yes, it's so nice. Let's do it twice.
Hope Mangiafico (02:38)
That was a good one. But it's a little different, a little twist to it, more like a game show, right? A little bit more game-like, I think. ⁓ I'm looking forward to it.
So just to fill in the listeners to help them know what's going on. So we have the first segment of, they're not questions, of gaming content. It's fill in the lyrics. So Nikki has some for me. I have some for Nikki. We do not know each other's answers or correct answers.
And so I'm going to go first with you, Nikki, on the first one and we'll go back and forth till we're done. All right. Perfect. So first one, I already know you know this one. I'm like, pretty sure I've heard you sing this one. Maybe even on the podcast. Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper.
Nikki Humphrey (03:21)
Perfect.
light in the darkness.
Hope Mangiafico (03:37)
That's correct.
Ding ding ding.
Nikki Humphrey (03:41)
Alright, here you go Hope. Great are you Lord. It's your breath and our-
Hope Mangiafico (03:47)
Lungs! Brachios! All right. Number two for you. It's really hard not to sing it actually, which I feel I would give it away. Okay. You give life, you are love, you bring light to the...
Nikki Humphrey (04:07)
darkness.
Hope Mangiafico (04:08)
There you go. You got a theme here. I just realized that. They're the same. Okay. Anyways.
Nikki Humphrey (04:15)
And just a reminder, all of you who are listening, I hope you are playing along with us.
Hope Mangiafico (04:20)
my gosh, yes, forgot to mention that. Absolutely. That makes it way more fun for you. Good reminder.
Nikki Humphrey (04:29)
All right, here we go. Hope. What a beautiful name it is. The name of.
Hope Mangiafico (04:34)
Jesus.
All right, I raise a hallelujah in the presence of my
Nikki Humphrey (04:43)
enemies.
Hope Mangiafico (04:45)
Ding ding ding.
Nikki Humphrey (04:46)
All right, hope you are good, good.
Hope Mangiafico (04:51)
You are good? Good?
Nikki Humphrey (04:53)
You are good. Good.
Hope Mangiafico (04:56)
father?
You're a good, good father, but you said you are, not your. You're good.
Nikki Humphrey (05:04)
Yes. You are good. You
are good. ⁓
Hope Mangiafico (05:11)
So the answer is the OO.
in the world.
You are good. You're good. I think my other one's pretty good though. ⁓ I could not. Okay, if a listener was playing along and got that props to you, man. Holy cannoli. Okay. Now for you, Nikki.
because the god of the mountain is still god in the
Nikki Humphrey (05:48)
Valley.
Hope Mangiafico (05:49)
Mm-hmm, you got it.
Nikki Humphrey (05:52)
All right, here we go. Build my life upon your.
Hope Mangiafico (06:01)
Love.
Nikki Humphrey (06:02)
That's right. That's right. Coming back strong.
Hope Mangiafico (06:06)
HAHA
My last one shouldn't count. That's not a word. But it is a lyric, I guess.
Nikki Humphrey (06:16)
That was
when they were writing it. They're like, you know what we need? You know, whoa.
Hope Mangiafico (06:23)
It so good. Alright. Your fifth one. This is how I fight my battles.
Nikki Humphrey (06:33)
This is how I fight my battles.
Hope Mangiafico (06:35)
Right? That's what I would have said, but it's not.
It may look like I'm surrounded, but I'm surrounded by you. The timing of where the lyric is is key.
Nikki Humphrey (06:48)
Yes.
Hope Mangiafico (06:48)
Cause that you, I think your answer was actually what the one I what, what the one was the one I read. That's tricky. Yes. We're tied.
That's good.
Nikki Humphrey (06:59)
Okay, here we go. This is a good one. You make me brave. You make me.
Hope Mangiafico (07:06)
hear this song I'm trying to think of the lyrics.
my gosh. I don't think I know it.
It's the, you make me brave. You make me brave. ⁓ No fear.
Nikki Humphrey (07:18)
You just said it!
You're just saying it!
Hope Mangiafico (07:22)
to get the second part so you make me brave.
Nikki Humphrey (07:24)
No,
it says you make me brave. You make me.
Hope Mangiafico (07:27)
You make
brave. I was trying to think the next lyric. What's the next one? No weapon. No.
Nikki Humphrey (07:33)
You, you call me
out.
Hope Mangiafico (07:35)
Something went into the waves. Huh, well, I thought it was that one, that's why I couldn't figure it out. Okay, good. the weapon may be formed, but it won't...
Yeah, utmost confidence.
Nikki Humphrey (07:54)
I just put together general Bible knowledge for that one.
Hope Mangiafico (07:55)
Good.
you
Nikki Humphrey (08:01)
Okay, here we go. Open up the heavens. We want to see.
Hope Mangiafico (08:10)
Glory.
Nikki Humphrey (08:12)
You.
Hope Mangiafico (08:14)
And God is glory.
What song is that? ⁓ not the hand. Hmm. See, your glory makes sense to me, but that's fair. That's fair. There's no point me trying to defend my answers here. I need to write my own song. I thought I was I was actually pulling from your line. I was using general Bible knowledge.
Nikki Humphrey (08:17)
I have no idea.
Hope Mangiafico (08:39)
Okay, all right, let's see. I'm no longer a slave to blank. I am a child of God. There you go, got it.
Nikki Humphrey (08:48)
Fear.
Okay, here we go. You'll know this one. Christ be magnified, let his praise.
Hope Mangiafico (08:55)
Hmph!
Arise. Thank you for the confidence booster. Spirit lead me where my
Nikki Humphrey (09:09)
Borders.
Hope Mangiafico (09:10)
Mm-hmm. You got it.
Nikki Humphrey (09:13)
Okay. Ooh, I love this song. I searched the world, but it couldn't.
Hope Mangiafico (09:21)
Fill me.
Nikki Humphrey (09:22)
Yes.
Hope Mangiafico (09:25)
U-turn morning to...
Nikki Humphrey (09:27)
laughter.
Hope Mangiafico (09:28)
that scripture dancing.
Nikki Humphrey (09:30)
You owe a-
Dancing?
Hope Mangiafico (09:32)
Yeah, correct. You got it. The scripture, I think, is mourning to laughter. Maybe it is mourning to dancing. Which one is it?
Nikki Humphrey (09:44)
I don't know.
Hope Mangiafico (09:46)
Both are great and joy-filled, so that's okay.
Nikki Humphrey (09:50)
Let's see. Ooh, another good song. Man, you got like my playlist going on here. Okay. You split the sea so I could.
Hope Mangiafico (09:55)
Hahaha
I'm trying to think what the lyric is.
Walk right through it.
Nikki Humphrey (10:04)
That's right.
Hope Mangiafico (10:07)
Graves into gardens, bones into...
Whenever I hear this song, I think I always skip this word, to be honest.
tough one.
Nikki Humphrey (10:18)
⁓
I want to say dancing, but it's not. ⁓
You turn crazy. Boom, boom, boom,
Hope Mangiafico (10:24)
you
You turn bones into armies. I don't think I've ever known that to be honest, but it makes sense. That's actually in the scripture. I'm with you on that one, so that's okay. It is.
Nikki Humphrey (10:41)
That's a good song though.
Okay, here we go.
I'm going to sing in the middle of the...
Hope Mangiafico (10:49)
thought you were telling me you were about to sing.
Sorry.
The storm. Very good. Even when I don't see it, your.
Nikki Humphrey (10:53)
That's right.
working.
Hope Mangiafico (11:02)
Amen.
Nikki Humphrey (11:03)
Okay, here we go. ⁓ another great one. Your goodness is running after it's running after
Hope Mangiafico (11:11)
Me!
do love that song. So good. All right. This is your last one. There's joy in the house of the blank today.
Nikki Humphrey (11:21)
Lord.
Hope Mangiafico (11:22)
Amen. was so good. So fun. So yes, hope listeners joined in. They participated, did better than us, we're the same, but at least got a good laughter trying to figure it out. And the next round of gaming questions is actually guessing the Bible character, which again, participation invited beyond Nikki and I.
Nikki Humphrey (11:27)
So fun!
Hope Mangiafico (11:51)
We have a couple different rounds of this as well. I'm a little nervous about this one, Nikki.
Nikki Humphrey (11:55)
Me too. I feel like I'm gonna, this is not gonna be good, but I'm gonna have grace for myself.
Hope Mangiafico (11:59)
⁓ this is exciting.
Amen, amen. It's like we consumed the whole Bible, but it doesn't mean we retained all the details. We're working on that.
What do you want to start with me on this one? Okay.
Nikki Humphrey (12:15)
I approached the king uninvited. I fasted before making my move. I saved my people.
Hope Mangiafico (12:22)
Esther.
Nikki Humphrey (12:24)
That's right. That's my favorite.
Hope Mangiafico (12:26)
Yeah, that's a good one. All right. I was told I would have a baby in old age. I laughed when I heard the promise. My son became a father of nations.
Nikki Humphrey (12:40)
Sarah.
Hope Mangiafico (12:41)
Yeah, it's good stuff.
Nikki Humphrey (12:46)
Okay, here we go. I stepped out in faith. I walked on water briefly. I denied Jesus three times.
Hope Mangiafico (12:52)
you
no, PETER
I walked on water briefly. That's so funny. That's a good one. All right, your next one. I had a coat of many colors. My brothers were jealous of me. I rose to power in Egypt.
Nikki Humphrey (12:58)
You
Joseph.
Hope Mangiafico (13:13)
Yep, you got it! Doing good.
Nikki Humphrey (13:16)
Okay, here we go. I was known for my strength. My weakness involved hair. A woman betrayed me.
Hope Mangiafico (13:23)
Hmm.
Samson. All right. You're going to like this one too. I left everything to follow my mother-in-law. My loyalty changed my future. I married Boaz.
Nikki Humphrey (13:42)
Ruth.
I just love Ruth. I just-
Hope Mangiafico (13:45)
I know
you do!
She's so good. That's why I've named multiple of my fiddle leaf figs Ruth.
It's good stuff.
Nikki Humphrey (13:52)
Yes. Okay. Ooh, I like this one. I climbed a tree to see Jesus. I was short. Dinner with Jesus changed my life.
Hope Mangiafico (14:06)
Is it Zacchaeus? Okay, I was like, I feel like I know it, but I'm a little nervous. Yay! Okay, good. All right, your next one. I was swallowed by a great fish. I ran from God. I eventually obeyed. I like these.
Nikki Humphrey (14:07)
Yes!
Hope Mangiafico (14:29)
Amen! Yes. Relatable.
Nikki Humphrey (14:29)
Donut!
Yes.
All right, last one.
I anointed Jesus with expensive perfume. Some people thought it was wasteful. Jesus defended me.
Hope Mangiafico (14:48)
Mary? Yes, I don't know. Is there a distinction of what Mary?
Nikki Humphrey (14:50)
Yes.
of Bethany.
Hope Mangiafico (14:59)
Okay, there's so many Marys in the Bible. If you don't know the answer, you can just guess Mary and if it's a female, you're likely correct. Mary of Bethany. Okay, thank you. All right, here's your last one. I was chosen to carry the Son of God. I said, let it be unto me. I sang a song of praise.
Nikki Humphrey (15:08)
That's right.
Merry.
Hope Mangiafico (15:25)
Of Bethany?
Nikki Humphrey (15:28)
You
Hope Mangiafico (15:29)
Mary parentheses, Mother of Jesus.
Nikki Humphrey (15:33)
That's right.
Hope Mangiafico (15:35)
Very good! Okay, that wasn't too bad.
Nikki Humphrey (15:39)
That wasn't too bad. That was fun.
Hope Mangiafico (15:41)
That was fun. Now, next segment.
I'm really excited about this one. This was a little bit.
Nikki Humphrey (15:49)
very excited to
and I didn't even like pre prepare for this because I
Hope Mangiafico (15:54)
I
didn't either. was going to actually put a little statement of like, this was a little bit of us kind of chatting and then Nikki kind of cast the vision of this one. And then we used the great internet to just pull questions basically on how to develop this. So, oh yeah, I'm excited. Basically it is what would be the dream day with your Jesus girls, right? had it broken into four mini categories.
So for your Jesus Girls day, where would it be? What's the location?
Nikki Humphrey (16:29)
is a tree house in the mountains. But when you look out from the wraparound porch, it's like a huge wraparound porch enough for like couches and a table for everybody to gather around. And when you look out, you see the forest, but then this lake and it like glitters like diamonds when the sun is rising up.
Hope Mangiafico (16:37)
Hmm.
Mmm.
That's beautiful. man, tree house. really wanted to get you a tree house for your 50th birthday and couldn't quite find one for us to stay in.
Nikki Humphrey (17:05)
But to be fair, Hope, our house was pretty high up in the trees.
Hope Mangiafico (17:09)
That's true. Fair statement. Fair statement. Okay. So I'm absolutely a mountain person. So mine would be in the mountains. And my biggest thing would be to have a view and to have a wall of windows and glass. So at all times, if you're inside, you're basically outside. But then you have the ability, let's say like it's all glass, you have the ability to like open them up or open up.
screen doors or slide them so the outside can come in as well. So you're just one with that nature the entire time you're there, period.
Nikki Humphrey (17:46)
I love that.
Hope Mangiafico (17:47)
I love me some mountains, It's so peaceful. Yeah, it's so good. And I would add that it's the perfect temperature where you have just a slight breeze, but all the sun, just hits you and it warms you up by 25, 30 degrees, but it's worth it. And it's wonderful.
Nikki Humphrey (17:49)
It's okay.
Ditto.
Hope Mangiafico (18:12)
So good. So what would the morning rhythm look like? You know, walking playlist, devotion, anything.
Nikki Humphrey (18:23)
think the morning rhythm for me is I wouldn't want to take away from anybody's natural rhythm in the morning because I think that's so sacred to so many Jesus girls. But if I was the hostess and I was preparing a morning rhythm for people, I would make sure that there was lots of cozy options with like blankets and a little
side table and a fire going and there's coffee ready and maybe some treats for them to indulge in and everybody gets a notebook and a pencil or just it's all laid out but they can just wander and do what they would normally do in the morning because when I go on a retreat or a waif or something what I don't like is to like wake up and be like I have 10 minutes to get ready.
I have to be prepared to do this. Like it's always like a shock to my system when I do things like that. So I want there to be plenty of time for people to wake up and do what they want to do with their special time with the Lord.
Hope Mangiafico (19:39)
Yeah, the word that came to mind was just slow, which would be a priority for me too. Honestly, you answered that so incredibly well. I want to jump on that retreat day immediately. And I don't know if I have anything to add to it. It really is as simple as
having stuff available where the guest, including yourself, can just pick and go up and just, the coffee's nice and warm and go ahead and pour it and snuggle up and just be with the Lord. And schedule something for the group at 11 o'clock or noon or like don't do anything till lunchtime kind of thing. So I love your response. I'm running with it. I'm taking your answer.
Nikki Humphrey (20:21)
just reminds me of the times we were both together. It was so natural and it was so relaxing and it didn't matter what time we got up or what we were doing. It was just so peaceful and so rewarding.
Hope Mangiafico (20:24)
I same
Yes. Yes. I was literally thinking the same thing. was going to say, know, especially when I was up north visiting you, especially because it was a familiar place for you to stay at, like every morning, just the coffee, the reading with the view, it was amazing and it was wonderful. So good. ⁓ So what? Okay. So now let's say the morning rhythm has been set.
What's the fun activity going to be?
Nikki Humphrey (21:10)
Okay, I had something else in mind, but this just popped in. So I'm going to say like, this is it. Okay. Cause one of the, the things was like thrift store. I would say that everybody would get like a budget of like $20. We pick a theme for the day and we have to find an outfit that matches the theme.
with our $20 and then we go home, we wash our clothes and then we get ready and we go out to dinner that night with that theme. Like it could be 70s, it could be like 80s, it could be like favorite biblical character, whatever. But I think that would be so fun and I love a challenge with like a small budget.
Hope Mangiafico (22:02)
I love that. ⁓ my gosh. Girl, you're on fire with this. You're setting up a retreat right now, right? You're in the background.
Nikki Humphrey (22:12)
I was just like, yeah,
let's get this. Let's get this book.
Hope Mangiafico (22:15)
You know what's really fun about this is that you and I have always desired whenever God's timing would allow to do like a retreat of some sort, you know, and I just, I'm just not connecting the dots of like, man, Lord, you're helping us plan this now for the future.
Nikki Humphrey (22:31)
That would be so fun.
Hope Mangiafico (22:33)
I love that so much and I love thrifting and like, putting things together based off what I find. So to compliment that. ⁓
Wow. So what's coming to mind is I don't really have a full vision for it, but it would be neat. cause you, you talked about how this had a example of thrift store. also has an example of a vision board night. And that got my wheels turning and thinking about like journaling and how neat it would be to like have, ⁓
don't know, like brown basic journals that have nothing left front and back and you, with some old magazines or whatever, you create the covers and you like, modge, podge it, but you end up gifting it to someone else that's at the retreat. And so, because I know how God works, whatever you hand to them, like it's like you allow the spirit to move in you. So this isn't about Nikki making for Nikki, hope making for hope. It's like,
I don't know what I'm doing, but I got all these magazines in front of me. Let me just create. And then you gift it to another person to be their journal for whatever they want to use it for with the Lord. And I wholeheartedly believe every image would be something so prophetic for them.
Nikki Humphrey (23:58)
that is so good. I want to do this.
Hope Mangiafico (24:00)
I do too!
I just like, that's such a neat idea. And cause you're really just, you've got no intent but flow.
Nikki Humphrey (24:07)
Mm-hmm.
Hope Mangiafico (24:08)
Those are fun. All right, so we're in the mountains. We've got our morning rhythm set. We picked some really fun activities. And now you need a moment, a heart moment, where everyone's together. What are they going to be doing to unify their hearts?
Nikki Humphrey (24:27)
this is good.
Hope Mangiafico (24:28)
It is good. You have to pick one. That's really challenging actually.
Nikki Humphrey (24:34)
that is really challenging because sometimes it's just spontaneous.
But for like a heart moment, I think it's going to have it's going to have to be like towards the end of the retreat. And it's just people, women talking about their greatest experience, biggest breakthrough, vision from Holy Spirit, a nudge that they got during this time, like what
Hope Mangiafico (24:39)
Hmm.
Nikki Humphrey (25:05)
What did God impart to you that you're leaving with, that you're taking away from this retreat?
Hope Mangiafico (25:13)
And to compliment that, what was coming to mind was our episode about what we're leaving behind in 2025. So it's like what you're leaving with and then also like what you're leaving behind because when you have such a breakthrough with the father at a retreat or anything, like it's so great to be like, okay, I'm leaving with X, Y, and Z, but we came in for a reason. We came in with some heaviness, right? Some junk, some desire for breakthrough because something was holding us back.
So to just be intentional on also vocalizing what it is that you're leaving behind.
Nikki Humphrey (25:48)
love that we could call it the holy exchange moment.
Hope Mangiafico (25:53)
Yes. You know, and I can't help, I was reading, I don't know if it was a book or a devotion. It's the same author, so it doesn't really matter. But he was talking about, and a lot of listeners will be familiar with this, about how like when you cast out evil spirits, like they'll come back to see if you've filled the void. And so you gotta make sure you say, hey, this is gone and this is what I am replacing it with in that holy exchange. Because if you do not have the two,
Because if you don't leave something behind, then what you're taking with you can't fit. But if you leave something behind and you don't fill it up with something you're taking with you, seven worse are coming your way kind of thing. So that holy exchange is invaluable. Oh, what a special moment that would be. Why did it this? This is so fun. And I got to say, it has like adding on some.
very basic ideas and I kind wanted to just like maybe do a quick run through of what like what snack tables would we have available or even just like what kind of snacky foods would you have?
Nikki Humphrey (26:57)
I know, we're having charcuterie.
Hope Mangiafico (27:00)
Yes, yes, all the best, man. Shara Cootery, amen. It's my favorite. It's my favorite food if there's such a thing because it encompasses so much.
Amen. That's my answer too. What's the aesthetic?
Nikki Humphrey (27:19)
like kind of like boho chic just like neutral color some soft pinks and grays maybe some neutrals thrown in there just very layered and luscious.
Hope Mangiafico (27:34)
Yeah, anything in my mind that like creates cozy, cozy safe vibe. Like softness, where you feel like you're just gonna sink down into security blanket and friendships. And this last one, what verse is the theme? It says of the day, but maybe a verse for the trip.
Nikki Humphrey (27:51)
That's right.
Hope Mangiafico (28:02)
for the retreat.
Nikki Humphrey (28:03)
Okay, so this is just popping in and it seems kind of like cliche, but I love like the beauty for ashes kind of theme. Chris talking about the holy exchange and
Hope Mangiafico (28:13)
Yeah.
I was thinking of our intro verse. You've been given great and precious promises by God. ⁓ Because that's also, they could complement each other so well. Or they can be two separate retreats. I love that. ⁓ man, that's so fun. I would love to know what listeners would.
Nikki Humphrey (28:18)
yes.
That's right.
Hope Mangiafico (28:42)
enjoy about any of the vision we cast for these things or if they have ideas that they would like as well. It'd be fun to hear from other people.
Nikki Humphrey (28:51)
Yes, we'd love to hear your thoughts and your ideas because it's so fun to dream.
Hope Mangiafico (28:57)
It is. Because nothing's off limits with the Lord. And as you grow, just as we've grown, your vision becomes more clear. You don't know the timing, but like what you desire because you're so aligned with the Father, it becomes more clear and the excitement is like more on fire. It's more lively.
Wow, what a fun day. So this was episode two of Just Having Fun.
Nikki Humphrey (29:27)
That's right. I have a little closing encouragement to read to everybody. As we wrap up today,
Hope Mangiafico (29:32)
Perfect.
Nikki Humphrey (29:35)
we hope this episode reminded you of something simple but powerful.

So, we're going to it a different way.

we hope this episode reminded you of something simple but powerful.
