Nikki Humphrey (00:00)
Friend, if there is one thing I hope you take away from today, it's this. You were never meant to live disconnected from the deepest part of who you are. Your spirit is not fragile or forgotten. It is still known by God because he put it there. Still responsive to his voice and still capable of leading your life back into alignment. No matter how long you've lived from the bottom up,
Hope Mangiafico (00:16)
Yes.
Nikki Humphrey (00:29)
No matter how many patterns, feel and trends, restoration is not only possible, it is already beginning the moment you turn your attention back to him. You don't have to unravel everything at once. You don't have to fully understand every

You

spiritual concept. You don't even have to feel ready. All God asks is willingness. As you move through this week, allow yourself to slow down enough to notice.
what your spirit is responding to. Pay attention to moments of peace, moments of conviction, without shame, moments where truth resonates deeper than logic. That's not coincidence. That's alignment. Wholeness doesn't come from forcing change. It comes from returning to order. Spirit first, then mind, then body. And as that order is restored, you may find that striving begins to quiet.
Hope Mangiafico (01:19)
Okay.
Nikki Humphrey (01:28)
Clarity begins to rise and your life starts to feel less like something you're managing and more like something you're living with God. You are not behind. You are not broken beyond repair. You are awakening to what has always been true. And from this place, your radiance will begin to shine again.
Hope Mangiafico (01:50)
a quick reminder, Equip for Wholeness has started, but it's not too late to join. You can step in right where we are and begin renewing your mind, healing past wounds, and walking in Spirit-led wholeness. God meets you where you are, not where you think you should be.
Hope Mangiafico (02:05)
I'm Hope.
Nikki Humphrey (02:06)

Hope Mangiafico (02:55)
Bam, where it all begins. I love that. This is such a exciting time. are in week two of Equipped for Wholeness after last week talking about assessing your and getting an idea of where you're at. And now it's like we're getting to the meat of things this week, right, Nikki?
Nikki Humphrey (02:57)
Yes.
Yes.
Hope Mangiafico (03:13)
getting started with the most important parts of how to actually now restore and become whole and Nikki and I have mentioned many times on the podcast like we're a triune being or spirit soul body or spirit mind body soul is incorporates the mind and we have to start this week talking about restoring your radiance in your spirit. That's where it all begins.
Nikki Humphrey (03:42)
I said the same thing I said, because wholeness doesn't start from the outside in, it starts from the inside out.
Hope Mangiafico (03:46)
Exactly.
Exactly, and we're gonna revisit that because that's exactly right reason that is what you're sharing Nikki is because everything flows from our relationship with God. If he created us, it has to start from that original creation, that original idea he had in his heart when he created us. And if he is spirit, we are spirit and we have to tap into that first before we can
in every other area just like you are saying. Really powerful. And the cool thing about starting with the spirit too is that's the part that's always known him as well and that he's always known about you. And so it's actually very exciting because it's almost like unearthing and remembering the true identity and the truth of you.
and Father God.
Nikki Humphrey (04:45)
love that idea and that thought of connecting spirit to spirit. And we did that during our 60 day challenge. We learned how to tap in to our spirit, into God's spirit. And you feel this inward transformation of that take place. And it is beautiful and it's amazing. And I can't wait to dig into it.
Hope Mangiafico (04:48)
Yes.
I know as you're speaking that I just think about like living water flowing out of us. That scripture didn't have that scripture written down. Go figure. So I don't know where it's at in the Bible. But the way you can have living water coming out of you is that spirit spirit connection, the goodness coming out that then shows up in your emotions, your mind and your body, which is really exciting. And a scripture.
that really was highlighted to me about just this concept of spirit-spirit connection like you were saying Nikki and God's design of us in his heart before we were ever here on this earth is Acts 17 28 which says in him we live and move and have our being.
Nikki Humphrey (05:57)
Yes.
Hope Mangiafico (06:02)
covers, I know it covers everything about us.
So cool. And another one that I really do like, so I'm just gonna do a little nugget drop here, is Jeremiah 1.5, where a lot of people are familiar that it says, I formed you in the womb, I knew you. But what you think about that? That means before you had a body, before your soul or your personality and emotions became a thing.
So there's the proof in scripture that your spirit was first.
It's so exciting. ⁓
Nikki Humphrey (06:41)
That's so beautiful. Because
we that's the part I was ignoring the most on my early walk as a baby Christian was my spirit.
Hope Mangiafico (06:51)
Yeah.
Well, let's go into that and the comment you made about like inside out kind of thing or trying to do outside in kind of living. The term that came to mind for me with that is that we often try to live bottom up then top down. So it's like dieting our way to peace or trying to exercise to find happiness or trying mantras and affirmations hoping that we'd eventually believe them. And that is like climbing uphill.
Nikki Humphrey (07:01)
Thank you.
Hope Mangiafico (07:25)
towards wholeness. And so I call that the the bottom up living instead of top down. When I think top down, I think spirit, soul, and mind, and then your body. And we always try to do the opposite.
Nikki Humphrey (07:36)
Yes.
Yeah, and for me, when I was like first a baby Christian, like I was trying to do all the outside things like read my Bible, go to church, do all those things that had an outward representation of my relationship with God while ignoring the personal side of that on the inside.
Hope Mangiafico (07:47)
Yeah.
Yeah.
And what's wild about that is that God's way is more simple. Like that's very complicated when we do that. We talk about it on the podcast checklist and loving that, but it's like, why do we love that? Because it's actually exhausting. So that's important to keep in mind. And the beautiful thing, when our spirits aligned, our soul and body will naturally come into agreement with God's truth, what he said about you, his character, all those things.
And I would define that as the sanctification process, is that renewal of your mind, which is Romans 12, 12, and then your body reflecting the balance that you start.
encompassing. Just like your total self, you just start seeing this reflection of balance, homeostasis, right? The peace, all the fruit of the spirit. In 1 Thessalonians 5.23, I'm not gonna read all these scriptures, they're for reference. Kinda digs into that a little bit more about how your body will reflect to that balance once you do spirit first living.
And the last thing that I just thought was a nice summary of everything that we just kind of talked about is if you think about us, Triune Being, which actually matches God, I love this so much, God, Holy Spirit, and Jesus, the spirit gives direction, the soul interprets, and the body manifests it. And this directly aligns with God being the head directing, Holy Spirit interpreting.
what God says and Jesus had a body to manifest all of it here perfectly on earth.
And I think going back to your example of you, Nikki, that you gave of like always trying to start with the outside things, the thing that you do. If all this is like, whoa, this is a lot kind of deep. Think about it from that perspective, how the Godhead works, you know, and why this is so important. All three parts are important. Jesus is important, Holy Spirit's important, God's important. But there's a starting place that it has to trickle down from.
And ⁓ something that I think is probably not talked about enough is that our spirits can be broken or crushed. And I think that could be, Nikki, to your point about starting with the outward things, we don't recognize the brokenness of our spirit, the crushing that's happened to our spirit. And so we don't even acknowledge it because we can't recognize it because we haven't been told.
or we haven't read the scriptures. I mean, that's probably partly true too, right? Like you can't read all these scriptures a lot of times. And that's extremely valuable to realize.
Nikki Humphrey (10:55)
Yeah, and just to go along with that, I had down a broken spirit isn't something to hide. It's often the very place where God draws near. Healing doesn't begin with pretending. It begins with acknowledging that that's happened.
Hope Mangiafico (11:11)
Yes, that's so true. So, so good. ⁓ I love that so much. And there's a lot of verses that validate all of this. One that I'm going to reference now is Proverbs 18, 14, which says, the human spirit can endure sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear.
And it makes me think about Nikki how many times I didn't see results from the outward stuff. And I still felt so broken because you can't bear a broken spirit. You can only go so long with that brokenness. I mean, it says you can endure sickness more than that, which is wild because we all know what it feels like to be really sick and unwell.
Nikki Humphrey (12:02)
And I've been reading lately, like, we have to go through the crushing to grow spiritually. It's part of process.
Hope Mangiafico (12:09)
Yeah.
Yes, that's that sanctification. Sanctification has so many different parts, right? It's that renewal, it's the crushing. You can't renew without crushing, really.
Nikki Humphrey (12:22)
Right. Yes.
Like think of a seed. It's got to crush the outside of the seed needs to be crushed in order for life to spring forth.
Hope Mangiafico (12:33)
Exactly. Yeah, yeah. It's fun when you start learning about yeah, plants and stuff and how they work. It's really amazing. And what you said about how right before we talked about Proverbs 18, 14, I know one of your favorite verses that we've talked about many times is Psalm 34, 18, where the Lord is close to the brokenhearted. And that's what you said complements that scripture so much. And it says, not only is he close to the brokenhearted,
but he saves those who are crushed in spirit and that's why it is so important to run to your father.
Nikki Humphrey (13:12)
And if you haven't tried it, just do it. Just do it. I've talked about my time where I was so broken on the podcast before and I just laid it all out and I felt Jesus come and comfort me. And that's like, there's no other feeling in the world when you are feeling crushed to reach out to God, even if it seems scary, even if it seems pointless, even if you don't think he's listening, he is.
Hope Mangiafico (13:43)
And I think...
As scary as it may seem, what is more scary as we move forward in this conversation is that your spirit continues to be broken because you will feel the weight of that.
And as again, Proverbs 18, 14 said, who can bear that?
There's only one that can actually bear that weight. There's only one that did bear the weight, so we don't have to.
So please, anyone listening, take Nikki's invite. Seriously with that, it will change you forever.
Now, there are a couple different reasons why our spirit needs to be restored, the radiance needs to be restored, and things that keep it just snuffed out, right? And the first one that is gonna not be the most
like a better term, probably, because it's very spiritual in terminology and scriptural, is that there's sin, transgression, and iniquity. And if we do not take responsibility for our actions, what we've seen in our family line and things like that, there can be that continued brokenness. It's why you, and we've talked about this in the podcast, it's why you see things go from generation to generation.
And so you have to take responsibility. If you do not, there will continue to be that separation and that doling down of your spirit. not gonna do a full-blown teaching on this, because it's a lot, and I know it can be a lot, but you probably, if you're familiar with the scriptures and reading the Bible, you hear those terms all throughout scripture. And a lot of times they're used interchangeably, but they're not interchangeable.
And that's the other really important thing to take note of. ⁓ So just in summary, sins are kind of one-off actions. Transgressions are when you start knowingly and willfully choosing sin, AKA creating a habit. And then iniquity is a complete perversion or distortion. And that's when you start seeing it in the family line, because now you're completely, your bloodline is separated.
because of that. They are not the same. And that is so important to remember. And it's why it's an ongoing process as the Lord highlights things to you into that restoration that you pay attention to those things. Because it's not gonna happen just like that. Just like changing your mindset or getting out of habits is not, it's that crushing. It's gonna feel like crushing sometimes to take that responsibility. But just remember,
that it is not you taking blame for something or blaming other people for whatever happened. It's simply taking responsibility so you can be free.
That's it.
And there's this one line that if you don't remember anything else from this point, remember this, you are responsible for the patterns operating in your life even if you didn't create them.
That's it, it's noticing the patterns and choosing, we love talking about choice, choosing if you want to keep them in your life and keeping them, allowing them to separate you from the father or not.
shout out to episode two on our podcast. If you don't know how to take responsibility, there is a joy in it because it's simply having a repentant heart. so without going into crazy steps, when you start noticing patterns, you're like, ooh, I don't like that. Or you're doing an action that you don't like. All you have to do is observe it and repent.
which is saying, father, I am sorry for this action I'm noticing. I don't want it anymore. I take responsibility for it and not put it under the blood under the cross.
Nikki Humphrey (18:17)
as you're talking Hope, I got this illustration. I didn't really know what it was at first, but then I just let it play out as you continued to talk. And it was just like, if each of us had a garden bed and we looked and we planted something and we're waiting for it to grow and to maybe because we're talking about the crushing of the seed, but we need to do things to keep the garden in a healthy state. So if we think of that as ourself and our choices,
Hope Mangiafico (18:31)
Hmm.
Hmm.
Nikki Humphrey (18:46)
Like what is going to produce the best fruit in our lives? And if we use our sacred imagination and ask God, like what is in my garden
Hope Mangiafico (18:54)
Okay.
Nikki Humphrey (18:55)
that shouldn't be there? What is causing chaos? What is taking root in my garden that shouldn't be there? What needs to be taken care of? And going through that with your father, he's gonna tell you what's in your garden that's good and what's in your garden that needs to be removed, what needs to be pruned.
What needs to be watered?
Hope Mangiafico (19:17)
So good.
That is a great illustration. And what I love at the end of the day when you use that illustration but what you ended with was like asking what needs to be water. Like you're asking questions because that's what observation is. If you are in a full seasonal life and you feel like you're going, going, going, going, you have to pause and ask the questions. And I love that garden bed.
illustration because it really simplifies it and it brings you with that sacred imagination just right in with the father. That's so good.
Cause I had some questions you can ask the Lord, but I don't, and these are actually in the Equip for Wholeness guidebook and in the course if you choose to at any point in time to jump in. But we're gonna run with because I think that was the Lord. So that's so good. So reason number one, there is sin, transgression, iniquity. It's keeping you separated. It's stolen out your vibrancy and we don't want to.
Reason number two we've already talked about and that is that bottom up living instead of top down. Doing the dieting, the exercising, the mantras, the affirmations, but not believing it in your heart. You hit a wall, well you're stuck.
The wall is impenetrable is what I'm hearing when you do it this way. And probably because rolling a ball downhill will break a wall much better than trying to force a ball uphill, trying to break the wall. Thank you, Lord, that makes a lot of sense.
And we talked about the simplicity of God's way. And it's crazy going back to talking about repentance and observing. That is simple. It is that simple. Two-step process, but we always tend to go back to the complex like we talked about earlier. And I don't know if I'll ever understand why we do that as humans, but we do.
Nikki Humphrey (21:31)
I think we've been trained as a culture that if it's not hard, then you're doing something wrong.
Hope Mangiafico (21:38)
gosh, that's very true. That's a great point.
Nikki Humphrey (21:43)
And if so and so is not doing it that way, then it's gotta be wrong, right?
And God's like, no, it's easy. ⁓
Hope Mangiafico (21:53)
Yeah, well, and we've and we have tasted and seen that ourselves, you know? And that's what I wrote in his note. was like, we can attest to this. And that childhood and being like a child, it's so good. But in the world, being a child does not sound smart or responsible, ⁓ not very adult like.
And you're right, it's a training.
And you know, slight side note, because this has been heavy on my heart recently over just the past couple days. The Lord highlighted to me that I was going through life believing life was rejecting me.
But the world kind of teaches that. If you don't make room for yourself, like who's gonna, don't take care of yourself, who's gonna do it? If you don't do all this work, how are you gonna make anything out of anything that you do? That sounds like a whole lot of rejection if you ask me.
us not our Abba. He has adopted us back through Christ.
And a lot of these seem to have a spirit of rejection attached to it when you really think about it, because we do performance, right? All those outward things.
And I wanted to just mention Matthew 6 33 as we talk about doing that spirit living first or that top down living first. Matthew 6 33 says, seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you.
Seek first, that. And it's guaranteed to work. And that's what's crazy. There's no guarantees in life except for that.
Nikki Humphrey (23:44)
Amen.
Hope Mangiafico (23:49)
And that's all I've wanted most of my life is guarantees that this effort will work and this effort, there's no guarantee if you're not seeking the Spirit of God first.
Nikki Humphrey (24:02)
Yeah, I wrote down trying to heal without restoring the spirit leads to exhaustion. Restoring with the spirit leads to peace. Because when your spirit is aligned with his spirit, renewal flows naturally.
Hope Mangiafico (24:18)
that's exactly right. And it really is just a natural unfolding. And John 6 63 says, the spirit gives life. The flesh counts for nothing. So if your life originates in the spirit, all that other stuff just has to naturally unfold. If you're starting with life and the source of it. So yeah, it's a beautiful thing. The fruit of the spirit kind of falls into place. Which
since you just mentioned the peace and things that come naturally when you approach the spirit first. Reason number three that we often don't have our spirit radiating is because we often have put our feelings in the place of authority and let them rule and reign instead of our spirit leading us.
And this is so fascinating. I think you and I both, know I can attest to this. Without spiritual understanding and really believing that we're spirits, emotions rule us. And that's part of the problem is a lack of understanding. Scripture says my people suffer for a lack of understanding.
Emotions are not a good ruler. We've talked about that on, I think it's episode 14 in the podcast. If you would like to listen to that episode. They're not bad, but they should not govern you.
Nikki Humphrey (25:55)
Yeah, and as you said, the word feelings, I feel like a lot of my feelings are strong and they come out really like, it's almost like when those feelings, when I allow those feelings to come out and take over, it's like kicking up dirt. creates like this foggy, everything's hazy and everything is like disjointed, but I'm just like, er, and I'm trying to like fight my way through this fog. And it's just like,
Hope Mangiafico (26:10)
Mmm. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah,
that's so true.
Nikki Humphrey (26:24)
That is not from
God. That is not from God. He doesn't want you living in a fog. He wants a clear connection with you. And those feelings, like you said, hope sometimes block it.
Hope Mangiafico (26:37)
Yes, processing with God simmers everything down, whereas you just letting them do their thing. Yeah, that cloud never goes away because you're just kicking your feet constantly.
Nikki Humphrey (26:50)
Yeah, you're walking around like pig pen, like just like a dust cloud. Everywhere.
Hope Mangiafico (26:55)
Yeah, and then you get dirty. And
then you make everyone else dirty. Ooh, that could preach. ⁓ That could preach. think there's a scripture that says like a bitter heart defiles many. And that just makes me think about every emotion that we allow to rule and reign us. It will defile many other people as well.
Nikki Humphrey (27:01)
Yes.
Yes, it will.
Hope Mangiafico (27:19)
Romans 8, 6 says, the mind governed by the flesh, which is that sin body, that is death. But the mind governed by the spirit is life and peace.
right there in scripture.
which is incredible.
And then the last reason I have down is kind of, kind of goes back to what we just said in reason number three about if you don't have spiritual understanding, your emotions will rule you. But reason number four is choosing to stay asleep to the unseen world and the reality that like scripture says in Ephesians 6-12, we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. You have to choose that this is a reality that is real.
or else you will only get a little bit of healing. You will not get the full healing that Jesus died for. As an example, you will only get partial wholeness. You will not be the entire beautiful being that God had predestined and spoken before you ever were here on the earth.
So being ⁓ asleep is really, mean, and you think about that, Nikki, would you say that once you really said yes to Jesus and started understanding that you were a spirit being, you could go around the world and out in the world, not around the world unless you travel around the world all the time, but out into the world. And you just notice when it seems like people.
are asleep to this truth. It's like you can just observe it and it breaks your heart.
you start feeling it, it's like your spiritual eyes and ears are open and that's probably what's actually picking up on that asleepness.
Nikki Humphrey (29:13)
Yes, you can see it, you can feel it, you notice it, like in people's mannerisms, where they carry themselves, the way they interact. Like if I see somebody like that, I'm trying to like get their attention. I want to say hi, just a little something. It doesn't have to be a full-on conversation, but I want those people to know that I noticed them. And it may not seem like a big deal, but if somebody's been going through life,
Hope Mangiafico (29:35)
Hmm.
Nikki Humphrey (29:43)
being overlooked or feeling not noticed. Sometimes that one little interaction can ignite a
Hope Mangiafico (29:49)
Mm-hmm.
Nikki Humphrey (29:51)
little something inside of them that yearns for more. And hopefully, God can take that moment and impart something to them that might spark a relationship with Him. It's not far off to think that sometimes little interactions with people can do it because
God can do anything, but sometimes people need a little help and a little encouragement.
Hope Mangiafico (30:19)
Well, that's like the let your light shine episode. We talked about that. I think bumping in the grocery store or something, just that little bump or that acknowledgement or that comment is just enough spark to awaken it up. Because at the end of the day,
to kind of edify what you're saying even more, Nikki, is we cannot do life alone, which we talked about, and God designed that, that if you see someone that seems like they're overlooked or they're not awake, life is happening to them, so they're just kind of going around, just seemingly going through the motions, I guess. It is our job and responsibility, as the Holy Spirit prompts us, to awaken them to the truth of their identity.
That is our responsibility. Yes, is it the Holy Spirit that tells you to move? Absolutely. Is it God that loves them? Not so much you. It's God in you that loves them, yes. But you have to partner with that truth if you also want to see people you love. Going back to reason number one where I talked about iniquity, what you see in your bloodline. You see all your family members struggling with all this stuff and they have these blocks with God,
Once you start doing this work, you got a role to play and helping their light shine too.
It's a beautiful thing when you look from the lens of love.
Nikki Humphrey (31:47)
Because when we connect our spirit with God and we feel like He recognizes us and He's with us, doesn't that light us up? Those little encounters from God. So it's not any different from person to person.
Hope Mangiafico (31:53)
Exactly.
Yeah, exactly.
Exactly, Yeah, it made me think about what you said towards the beginning about that spirit to spirit connection with God. It's the same thing with people. If we all were spirits with God beforehand, we can make that same connection with them, which is a really beautiful concept. You know, we've talked about in one of our episodes and just personally, like, it feels like we were always destined to be like sisters and best friends, you know, is
Is it just a feeling or is it because we have that deeper connection, right? Like, did God instill that?
before he put us together in the womb. I don't know, I'm not that, I don't understand all that, but it just reminds you of how important those relationships are in doing that. It's exciting, it's cool.
Nikki Humphrey (32:48)
It's so exciting because sometimes I feel like, you know, with you, Hope, like our high, our spirits are like high fiving each other. Like. Go.
Hope Mangiafico (32:49)
You
It's so
sweet. It's so sweet. God is so cool in aligning you with the right people to help you on your journey to wholeness and restoring your radiance on every level.
You have your people out there to walk along. I don't know why we're adding this, but we are to walk alongside you on this journey.
Nikki Humphrey (33:22)
day.
Hope Mangiafico (33:22)
You
do. It's beautiful.
Now, that said, I have two questions that you can ask the Lord, just little prayer prompts to help you kind of begin this part, this little journey. And so you just spend a quiet moments asking the Lord or Holy Spirit just for some guidance here. The first one is, show me where my
has been crushed and help me remember what you knew about me before I was born.
And that's a sacred imagination kind of thing. You close your eyes and let them speak to you. Maybe see a picture, a scripture, whatever it may be, but let them highlight it. Use the garden illustration that Nikki used. It's beautiful. And the second one, show me where I have lived from the bottom up or from the outside instead of living from the inside. Teach me how to live from my spirit through you.
That's it.
Yeah, I like them because they're kind of quiet questions instead of like, let me write down the answers. They're just, you get to be, you get to be a human being instead of a human doing and those questions.
and I love that.
Nikki Humphrey (34:48)
I have a closing encouragement that I'd like to read.
Friend, if there is one thing I hope you take away from today, it's this. You were never meant to live disconnected from the deepest part of who you are. Your spirit is not fragile or forgotten. It is still known by God because he put it there. Still responsive to his voice and still capable of leading your life back into alignment. No matter how long you've lived from the bottom up,
Hope Mangiafico (35:12)
Yes.
Nikki Humphrey (35:25)

Hope Mangiafico (36:14)
Okay.
Nikki Humphrey (36:24)
Clarity begins to rise and your life starts to feel less like something you're managing and more like something you're living with God. You are not behind. You are not broken beyond repair. You are awakening to what has always been true. And from this place, your radiance will begin to shine again.
Hope Mangiafico (36:48)
Amen. So good. Until next time, we'll see you in the overflow.
