Nikki Humphrey (00:12)
Okay, so what's coming to my head about this whole episode is how God is so good and he shows up. Like that yielding, the yield sign, like all of that, like.
Hope Mangiafico (00:21)
Yeah.
Nikki Humphrey (00:24)
Won't he do it? Won't he take something as complicated as surrender?
Hope Mangiafico (00:24)
Perhaps. Yes.
Nikki Humphrey (00:30)
And just a couple easy steps. Yield. Ask what would a daughter do? You know, pausing and pondering about the situation. If you feel anxiety, stress, the woo, like something's off. Maybe that's something you should surrender. it's like you said in the episode, Hope, like these aren't like light bulb like.
Hope Mangiafico (00:38)
Yes.
No! ⁓
Nikki Humphrey (00:59)
It's kind of like a duh.
But we hang on to everything so close and we want it all. We want to control everything and we want to be the boss applesauce and just like figure it out and get the glory and just all the things and be highlighted. Nope, that's not how it works.
Hope Mangiafico (01:17)
And I'm growing in the area of finally like being excited and grateful that God is so good that he simplifies everything that I have believed to be so complex. And I think we have made concepts like surrender feel so complex because we see our lives as complex and complicated. And if we go back to what you said in the episode, Nikki, where you're like, God sees more, he sees all, he knows more.
well then I should be able to say well then that means from my perspective my life isn't that complex to my father.
and he can show me what needs to be shown to paint the picture the way that I'll understand it because he calls me a child. Again, going back to childship. no kid is gonna understand what surrender is, but they will absolutely, you show them a yield sign, you're like, see that thing? This is a great demonstration of when you feel like the whole world is going crazy around you and you're overwhelmed at a, I don't know, a birthday party, right?
Nikki Humphrey (02:03)
Yes.
Hope Mangiafico (02:27)
Just stop. Just pause. Come look for me. Come find me in the crowd. I'll be right there. And in that retreat that I've talked about, they have a family one in the summers. So the adults do like what seems more complex, but it really isn't. It's simple. And then they have a kids one. They do eight minute sessions teaching the same thing that they're teaching the adults.
in about an hour, hour and a half. If that don't tell you something, like instead of calling spirit spirits, they call them yucky puckies. You know, it's kind of like how you, you sometimes you and I both, we have terms that are just kind of like cutesy, or like activating your chooser, instead of saying you've got choices all the time, it's activate the chooser inside.
Nikki Humphrey (02:58)
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Hope Mangiafico (03:19)
That is the heart of God. We have to accept that and be joyful about it. And it like, like stacks joy once you accept that. You're like, yeah, this is exciting.
Nikki Humphrey (03:34)
For sure. Yeah.
And I just love how in the episode you pointed out, like we're a study of one and here Hope and I are, we're like, we're trying to learn all the things and trying to watch all the videos and trying to figure out secret sauce. And God's like, okay, well that's fine. But that worked for them and you are a little different. So it's going to have to be applied in a different way. And if we don't allow that application to take hold, we're missing out.
on what God needs to teach us. And as you were talking earlier in this overflow, I had this download. Our resource is not the same as the source.
Hope Mangiafico (04:16)
Amen.
Nikki Humphrey (04:18)
and Hope and I will love us some resources and not to say that they aren't useful but they shouldn't be our only tool all the time just because so-and-so said and they're the expert and they're the this well god is god so boom who knows more
Hope Mangiafico (04:37)
You saying that reminds me of something that I actually prayed to God this morning. I already talked about in the episode about the day trading thing, right? I asked God to please help me unlearn some of the things that I heard and I've taken them as like the only valid way to the point where I don't realize I'm doing something and that little fact is in the back of my mind, making me more panicky because I think I'm running out of time. So.
just for context, so maybe someone can apply this to their own journey. I was told 9.30.11 is when that prime time where the market's just hot, okay? So when a couple minutes pass, let's say 15, 20 minutes, all I think is time is running out.
Because I heard that statement made about prime time So I'm panicking. What does that mean? I'm not I'm not relying on God as the source. I'm not trusting his wisdom I am straight up listening to this one resource and it's now Started compounding in other areas that are affecting what I do
Jokes on me in the very beginning. I like probably have it in the front of my little journal for day trading. God will be my source. He is going to dictate my steps. This is for God. He's going to show up. He wants to show that he can do anything.
But it just shows how sneaky a resource can be. It's a seed that came from, honestly, people that I learned stuff from.
But I can guarantee you if I never knew that, a lot of the fears I've had wouldn't even come in in the first place. If I would've stuck with page one, day one, this is for God, he's my source, things would've unfolded a lot differently. My foundation would've been stronger. I bypassed some of the most important parts, and I'm not kidding when I say that, like how to place an order the right way. I mean, it's ridiculous.
you talk about it, but there's so many different ways to place an order. And because I was panicking about time, I just wanted to place it as fast as possible. Not like getting the big picture here, right? I hope it paints the picture of how sneaky and progressive and compounding it can be to where then you feel that surrendering is overwhelming.
because you've created tornado.
Nikki Humphrey (07:11)
Well, I think that can be applied in any situation at any time. We put a time limit on things. Like we have the little sand timer and we're like, we tell God something or we want something done or we expect something to happen and then we flip it over. We're watching those grains of sand going down and we want God to show up. We want God to lead the way, but you got like.
Hope Mangiafico (07:14)
Exactly.
I can let my heart race as thinking about those stupid timers.
Nikki Humphrey (07:35)
200 kernels of sand left, now you got 100, now you got 50, and now you got 10, and now you got five, and now you're at zero. And so you're focusing on the time and you're not focusing on God, just like what you said.
Hope Mangiafico (07:47)
But yet we like.
Nikki Humphrey (07:48)
Everybody, a
lot of people, I'm not gonna say everybody does it, but I do that a lot throughout my day.
Hope Mangiafico (07:52)
yeah, ⁓ mm.
you're telling
we'll pretend that we say god works outside of time i have said that because i want to believe it but i don't
Nikki Humphrey (07:57)
Yes.
Hope Mangiafico (08:03)
if you scroll too quickly or too often on social media you'll hear how people will say like time's not a renewable resource once it's gone it's gone there's so much fear around time which then creates a fear to surrender our time to our father
And I think we all can say that from ⁓ do it a quiet time, reading the Bible, praying, day to day decisions. It's scary because it does affect our time.
Nikki Humphrey (08:33)
why it's so important to surrender our time over to God.
Hope Mangiafico (08:37)
And I'll be the first to admit that at one point I had trouble not viewing it as loss of time by surrendering because it was a change in my habits. And by shifting away from old habits, this goes back to the very beginning of the episode of what you said, it's like a loss.
Nikki Humphrey (08:49)
Mm-hmm.
Yes.
Hope Mangiafico (08:58)
But loss with God is always gain.
Nikki Humphrey (09:00)
because it builds the foundation. It makes it stronger. It seals the cracks.
makes it stronger.
Hope Mangiafico (09:08)
Amen. That's really, that's really good. And
we speak on this episode today, I'm more joy-filled. And it's funny because one of our first episodes, we talked about joy, not first episodes, but towards the beginning of the podcast. And I was, I mean, if anyone goes...
listening to that, you could hear my internal wrestling with Joy. Nikki's sitting here giving all these tips and I'm like, but how? How do you do? I mean, I was drilling questions because I mean, this is what we say. We're sharing our struggles and our breakthroughs and all the things that we know. And I was struggling. But the reason at the end of the day, if I look back on this past year of 2025, because I'm still reflecting in moments where maybe I'm struggling with surrendering something or choosing something in the moment, right?
I was holding on to a lot of things.
and surrender through the right lens with the Father I am finding for myself is actually the answer to joy for me.
And I'm just not understanding that despite us having that conversation forever ago. They're all related. That's why you were also saying how, and we both have said it in this episode and the overflow. We've mentioned this, we talked about this, we've done this, we've, you know, in this episode, in that episode. At some point, if you're a listener and you're listening to multiple episodes of ours, the hope, right, the hope is that it all starts to come together in this one picture.
that you can't separate joy from surrender from peace from repentance.
Mm-hmm.
