I love this episode felt like at the end where we talked about in one of our overflows, it was a while back, how like we just get unplugged. That's how this episode felt like it just ended like, okay, okay girls.
Nikki Humphrey (01:14)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, like I was
like, quite, you all just repeat yourself at this point, sisters.
Hope Mangiafico (01:23)
Well, and that does happen. I know sometimes it's like repetition is so good to like drive home a point. But then it's yeah, to a point where it's like, okay, we're just, we're just buying time.
Nikki Humphrey (01:35)
Yeah. And
I think it was so funny, like God brought into like that word I had, it must have two or three, went, amen. And everybody was questioning me on it. Like, I didn't know what it meant either, but I'm just, that was my word. like, know how when God gives you a word, kind of cherish it. You're kind of like protective of it. You're kind of stumbling your way through it because you don't know what it means. And I was like, I didn't know what it meant either, but now you're making me question like God gave me a bad word. And God doesn't give bad words.
Hope Mangiafico (02:05)
Well, that goes to like expectations and study of one, right? Like people are putting their expectations, their thoughts on you, which I'm very guilty of doing to people too, because to be frank, as someone on the outside, I'm not supposed to understand it. And gosh knows preaching to myself, I need to stop trying to understand other people's stories and journeys with the Lord because it's not my place until God tells me to like step in or whatever. But yeah, no one was supposed to understand that.
Nikki Humphrey (02:25)
Yes.
Hope Mangiafico (02:34)
But you, I had a word, I have actually a saved note on my phone of all my words because I started forgetting them and I, you're right, I cherish every year of these words. But one was load. And then he's been adding over the past like four or five years a second word after I get my main word. And so it was my load.
But I think like when I think back to it, my expectation going in how the year, I have to look what year it was, how the year unfolded was Hope taking responsibility for things. Her things.
Nikki Humphrey (03:09)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Hope Mangiafico (03:13)
my load and then learning also how to give my load to him. So it weird and I saw like a when I got that word like I saw ⁓ like a truck gate I guess is what you would call it. No what do you call that when you have like on a warehouse the doors for the the 18-wheeler to back up?
Nikki Humphrey (03:14)
my love.
Yes.
Hope Mangiafico (03:35)
What are those called? But anyways, they're like garage door type things. The 18 Willers back up to unload their stuff. That's what I saw. And so I don't tell many people my words, so I don't think I got anything back from it, but I knew my brain was like, what the crap?
Nikki Humphrey (03:55)
Well, yeah, because again, you see on social media people talking about their word of the year and it's just like, and it's just like flowy and it's just like good and bubbles and hearts and all the, you know.
Hope Mangiafico (04:09)
Puffles
and hearts. Yeah. Every time he will. You got, he doesn't work in time, but he will show up because he knows we work inside of time. He'll show up in 12 months, we promise.
Nikki Humphrey (04:11)
And then you think about your word and you're like, ⁓ that's why it's important. It's a study of one. And God will reveal it over time. Wouldn't it? Yeah.
Right. And those people
who are maybe just like all the balls and whistles with their word and a lot of them have checklists and God doesn't necessarily work in checklist or like, you know, by this date, you're going to have this and this date, you're going to have that. God works outside of time.
Hope Mangiafico (04:39)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Nikki Humphrey (04:53)
So we can put any timeframe we want on something doesn't mean we're going to hit it. Doesn't mean we should feel bad.
Hope Mangiafico (05:00)
And thinking back to that scripture too, it's so radical to think a thousand years is like a day to him. I mean, think about that truly, like sit on that. I mean, I've heard, again, I've, said this in the episode, like I've heard that scripture so many times, but it's hard to wrap your mind around what a thousand days, a thousand years, no, a thousand years.
Nikki Humphrey (05:22)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Hope Mangiafico (05:25)
Even a thousand days is actually a-
It's a good, it's a really great topic and I think it feeds so well into continuing for us as well as anyone listening, like to bring them to wholeness because as I mentioned of my own journey, you cannot run away because you've already started the journey. But if you don't set goals properly with that lens of love, you lose the familiarity of God, the touch, that
close, like you lose the feeling. And then you start feeling very overwhelmed and disconnected and alone. And that's when it gets harder to get out. You are not too far gone. But I mean, we can both share our own stories, right? Of like, it's hard when you keep going further and further, attempting to go further and further.
Nikki Humphrey (06:31)
Yeah, because when we get off course from our like earthly goals, we'll do anything that we can to try to course correct and get back on it and like make it better. And maybe we try to shortcut something or try to like whatever it is. It's you could become so tired, so fatigued, so irritable. like, because you feel like nothing's going right. And why isn't it working? And
Hope Mangiafico (06:38)
That's the truth. Yeah.
All
Nikki Humphrey (06:58)
is, woo, that lens I hate gets real big real quick. And yeah, we think that we're so worthless and we don't measure up and we'll never be X, and Z. Well, duh, we weren't meant to be X, Z. That's why.
Hope Mangiafico (07:12)
right. Yeah, no, for sure. And you know, as simple as it sounds, as you're giving those questions of like, isn't anything working and this, that, and other, those should be.
the biggest red flags like your sweater. ⁓ But for whatever reason, because we've already gotten on that hamster wheel, we don't take them as red flags and just stop. We're still nervous and afraid to stop. And I mean, I still, that was me. I talked about the frames. I mean, I was like too afraid because I'm like, I'm running out of time. We have to like, just like your sweater. We got to see those as like.
Nikki Humphrey (07:22)
Bye.
Hope Mangiafico (07:48)
bright red red flags and truly like I trust you God it's yours.
Nikki Humphrey (07:55)
and it's learning to stop and seek out your father. Right? I know so many times still, like I start running off into the curly cues and like, God's like, you go practice with your preach girl, cause I'm right here. yeah. And just like when you went through the frames, you know, at any point you could have been like, God, should I paint these frames? If so, like.
Hope Mangiafico (08:22)
I didn't do
that.
Nikki Humphrey (08:23)
What should I do? Like, you know,
and it's just, we're learning. Doesn't mean we're right or wrong. We're just learning how to do these things. Just like all of you listening or watching. Like don't condemn yourself. Just like, okay, it's a teachable moment. And what can I do moving on from this point?
Hope Mangiafico (08:28)
Yeah.
Exactly. And he loves those moments. He loves them.
Nikki Humphrey (08:51)
know.
Yeah, and that's how we learn. If we don't have any struggles, if we don't have any obstacles, if we don't have any curly Q's, we didn't we never learn, we never grow, we never get to apply everything that we're learning from.
Hope Mangiafico (09:05)
And as
much, yeah, and I feel like that's not always very encouraging because people don't love, like you kept talking about, you know, taking the shortcuts, like we long for the easy road, but I'm always encouraged by remembering the scripture where it's like Jesus learned obedience. So using my frames as an example, I could have paused and asked and that would have been obedience based on what the Lord said, but I'm still learning it.
And Jesus had to do that too. And so you're exactly right that it's how you build character and grow is through the trials. And I feel that in the Christian space, that statement can often be overstated ⁓ without having love connected to it and appreciation and a true experimental appreciation for it.
Nikki Humphrey (09:35)
Hmm?
Hope Mangiafico (10:03)
And I just want to encourage people with that, like truly, if you claim to follow Jesus, it was his journey too. And take heart, be filled with joy on that journey and recognize that those trials.
Cultivate in you to be honest Everything and more your heart could ever desire. You just don't know it yet
